BoltBuster - Split shaft climbing bolts break tested in slow motion

3/8" threaded top split shaft bolts are super hard to hammer in and they snapped in tension at 22.52kn and 17.12kn and the snapped in shear at 37.50kn. These bolts were donated by Greg Barnes from the ASCA

(http://www.safeclimbing.org/index.htm). Please don't bolt if you don't have to and if you do put in something that will last a long time and not shitty zinc plated split shaft bolts.

Breaking Gear Fear

Edutainment has been a great way to help people understand their gear, and know the true limitations of it.  Watching HOW gear fails is more important than the force itself, as almost all gear is super good enough.  It's more important to share information on how to stay safe than it is to have a paywall.  We hope our stoke is contagious.
